The Center for Transformation exists to promote environmental justice, using the theologically-grounded principles of the Roman-Catholic tradition. Its programs strive to study this tradition, in conjunction with the best available science, to develop and apply environmentally just solutions within the Center’s immediate community, the Village of Waterfront South in Camden, New Jersey, and within the wider community as occasion might demand. Meeting our Mission:
- Develop a physical site whose primary function is the fulfillment of our mission
- Improve the physical environment of Waterfront South in collaboration with similar groups, communities and individuals
- Create a forum for presenting lectures, symposia and conferences which explore the many aspects of the principles of the Center.
- Organize and sponsor retreats set in a framework of the study and application of gospel-based principles of environmental justice
- Solicit program-supported funding, either alone or in collaboration with like-minded organizations, to further our mission’s goals and objectives.
- Establish a network with local and regional learning institutions, particularly environmentally-related programs of study, to expand opportunities to learn to address the environmental challenges of impoverished neighborhoods.
- Offer guidance and encouragement to community grass-roots programs to make challenged communities into greener, more environmentally friendly places to live.
